We have recently just become introduced to this beautiful gemstone, and I must admit we have become quite obsessed with it :)
This is fire (magnetite) obsidian which is a rare form of obsidian that can only be found in the Glass Buttes region of Oregon.
The gemstone shows beautiful rainbow fire when a bright direct light hits the stone from various angles. When not being lit by strong lighting it appears black like regular obsidian volcanic glass. There are some pictures showing the stone when not at fire.
Obsidian is a delicate material, being volcanic glass, it has a hardness similar to opal, so care is similar to that of opal as well. You wouldn't want to wear this ring (or an opal ring) doing the dishes and gardening lol
The obsidian is wrapped in an 18k bezel and the ring shank is made of sterling silver which has silver dust fused to it and then has been mildly oxidized to add dimension to the texture.
The ring measures 7.75 on the mandel, but due to the width of the band it fits closer to a 7.5.
This is such a special ring...and such a beautiful stone :)
