Blue Chalcedony and Peach Moonstone Pendant, Sterling Silver

Some pieces come together quickly. This wasn't one of them...

After Les finished cutting this beautiful, collector grade Abyssinian blue chalcedony with a higher-than-usual dome, I knew I wanted the light passing through the stone to be the focus. Finding the right companion stone proved much harder. I tried six different gemstones before finally settling on this soft peach moonstone.

It was worth the search.

The warmth of the moonstone doesn't compete with the chalcedony—it simply lets it breathe. Together they have the quiet, airy feeling I was hoping for, while the delicate milgrain on the satin sterling silver bezel  surrounding the chalcedony adds just enough texture to frame the stone without weighing it down. 

Every focal gemstone begins in our studio, where Les cuts each stone by hand before I fabricate its setting in sterling silver. Because we cut our own gemstones and never work from production castings, each piece evolves differently and can only ever exist once.

I hope whoever wears this pendant notices what I noticed the first time the light caught that blue chalcedony—that fleeting moment when a gemstone seems to glow from within.
